about

The loss of the herring fleet in 1787 was due not only to a sudden storm on St Matthew’s Eve but the lack of lights on the quay to guide them safely back to shore. Repairs had not been made in Douglas after half of the pier had been swept away in 1786, resulting in great loss of life.
The song appears in A W Moore’s Manx Ballads and Music and is referenced in Harrison’s Mona Miscellany.

This was originally released as a CD in 2012 by Culture Vannin
