Colin Jerry translated ‘William Taylor’ into Manx and published it in A Garland for John Clague. The original English text was taken from the log of the whaling ship Herald out of Providence, Rhode Island in 1817 and in that version, William came from the Isle of Man, so a translation into Manx seemed a natural choice.
The Manx tune sung here is also used for dancing.
