about

A live recording of the Manx poet, Paul Lebiedzinski, performing in 1985.
'Mengele Boat Song' is a topical satirical song about the discovery in Brazil in 1985 of the bones of Josef Mengele (Nazi war criminal and physician at Auschwitz concentration camp) at the same time as the discovery of 'the Pagan Lady's' remains at Peel Castle. The song suggests that the bones at Peel are those of Mengele. The song's contentious performance occasioned some complaint after it was delivered at the 1985 Yn Chruinnaght Survivor's Ceili.
It was sung to the Scottish folktune, Mungulay Boat Song.

This recording was originally released on 'Six Foot Under', a cassette tape produced in 1998 by Culture Vannin (then with the name, Manx Heritage Foundation).
