about

A song inspired by the life of one of the Isle of Man’s most important cultural icons, Mona Douglas.

Adapted by Annie Kissack, she writes:
"I extended the Manx tune 'Arrane ny Jinnyn,' song of the travelling beggars, to go with three verses of this poem. Appropriately enough the first words of the Manx Gaelic song are 'Irree Seose, Irree Seose; Rise up, Rise up,' making a fitting connection with the idea of a revolt against the material world which is such a strong feature of Mona's verse."

This song was first released as a part of 'Mona's Isle: The Legacy of Mona Douglas' in 2017.
