about

A song inspired by the life of one of the Isle of Man’s most important cultural icons, Mona Douglas.

Composed by Bob Carswell, he writes:
"'Winds of Summer' is from Mona Douglas' first book of poetry, Manx Song and Maiden Song, published in 1915. I was attracted to it as an invocation, calling on the forces of nature which were so important to Mona, as a haiku-like, simple evocation of moments of great beauty, and for its implications in an allegorical sense of three stages of life and suggestion of 'Cheer nyn Aeg' (land of eternal youth). Mona's three verses consist of four lines, but in this arrangement the two opening lines are reprised in reverse order to bring each image back to its starting point."

This song was first released as a part of 'Mona's Isle: The Legacy of Mona Douglas' in 2017.
